Incident Summary:
On Thursday July 28, 2016 sometime between 3:50pm and 3:55 pm a green Ford Explorer driven by a 17 year old male was traveling in the S/B number 1 lane in the area of Rainier Circle when it turned into the number 2 lane and collided with the driver’s side door of a red Mazda MX-5 which was traveling in the number 2 lane. The Mazda was being driven by a 76 year old male and his 58 year old wife was the passenger. There was only minor damage to both vehicles and they both stopped on the right hand side of Sonoma Street between Rainier Circle and Castle Dr.
A witness to the collision a 39 year old male stopped in his silver Nissan Maxima behind the red Mazda to ensure everyone was alright. All parties were out of their respective vehicles for several minutes when at 3:59pm a second collision occurred into the rear of the stopped vehicles. 86 year old Thomas Christie was driving a silver Toyota Camry S/B on Sonoma Street in the number 2 lane south of Rainier Circle. Christie looked into his driver’s side mirror to turn into the S/B number 1 lane when he collided with the rear of the Nissan Maxima which was stopped along the west curb of Sonoma Street. Christie stated he had not seen the cars stopped on the side of the road.
Chrsitie’s Toyota collided with the rear of the stopped Nissan Maxima which then went forward and collided with the rear of the Mazda. The witness which had stopped and had been driving the Nissan was hit and thrown into the air hitting his head on the windshield of his Nissan when he came down causing significant damage to the windshield. He was transported to a hospital in Santa Rosa and released later in the evening with only minor injuries.
The 58 year old female who had been a passenger in the Mazda was standing on the sidewalk next to the Mazda when she was struck and thrown into the air landing about 10 feet from where she was struck onto the sidewalk. She apparently hit her head on the sidewalk causing a significant head injury. She was transported to Valley Hospital where she died shortly after arriving.
The Police Departments Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Thomas Christie the driver of the Toyota was cooperative during the investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision and it does not appear Christie was traveling at an excessive speed. No other persons at the scene were injured.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending notification of family members. Sonoma Street between Rainier Circle and Castle Dr. remained closed for several hours while the scene was investigated. This collision remains under investigation by the Police Departments Traffic Unit.

Okrutny wypadek. Okrutny.

17 latek uderza w auto jadace obok, w nim malzenstwo: starszy facet, mlodsza kobieta. Niby nic sie nie stalo, wszyscy wysiadaja, zatrzymuje sie swiadek by pomoc w dojsciu prawdy, albo poczekac na policje. Po chwili inny starszy kierowca jadacy tojota, uderza w auta i skutkuje to smiercia pazazerki (zony starszego pana) a nieczemu niewinny swiadek laduje w szpitalu. Obaj kierocwy, po ktorych stronie lezy wina, maja sie dobrze… Dobrze w sensie fizycznym…
Ciekawe czy auta mialy wlaczone swiatla ostrzegania? Bardzo mozliwe, ze nie, wiec starszy kierowca tojoty myslal moze, ze te autka jada sobie. Refleks i oczy 86latka zawiodly…
